Abstract

The Prophet treated the People of the Covenant in general with kindness and goodness. He granted them the freedom to practice their religion and to pursue their economic and social affairs and businesses, in addition to protecting them and providing them with security and safety in exchange for their pledge not to harm Muslims and not to plot against them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) imposed on every dhimmi the payment of a jizya of one dinar per year. This did not include women, the sick, the disabled, and children, but only healthy men. His kind and generous treatment of the People of the Covenant was clear and evident, despite the conspiracies and plots they committed against him and Muslims to destroy Islam and Muslims and kill the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family).
