Body Language in the Love Poetry of the Umayyad Era's Contradictory Poets

Abstract

The language of the body is one of the means by which poets convey their thoughts and meanings. This means is not limited to any one purpose. Because women are present in the poets' experiences as beloved, wife, sister, and daughter, and because the beloved woman is the most dominant figure in the poets' experiences, this research aims to explore the means that poets used to convey their feelings, emotions, and meanings towards the woman they were enamored with. Among these means is body language and its associated vocabulary. We will trace this language in detail according to its occurrence and identify the most frequently used terms denoting the body. The study is based on two axes: The first is the definitions of the body and love poetry, and the second is the language of the body in the love poetry of the contradictory poets. A conclusion and results are then presented. We adopted the descriptive-analytical method.
