Abstract

The relationship of the novel with the science of physics extends back to the time of its inception. The novel rose as an expression of human alienation in industrial Europe and the division of the Western self in the midst of the new liberal society. The science fiction novel, which was famous in the late ninth century, was a representation of the scientific spirit of human civilization. Salim Matar presented the dialectic of the relationship between scientific and technical progress on the one hand, and the concept of civilization and the system of values on the other hand, and therefore it is a novel of "scientific conscience" more than a science fiction novel.
