Abstract
Through our knowledge and study of the political and administrative conditions in Iraq during the era of Mongol control and in the city of Erbil more precisely, we learned that after the Mongols imposed their control on Baghdad, their army forces set off very quickly to occupy the rest of the Iraqi cities.
Larbel played a major and visible role in preventing surrender and confronting the Mongols, but unfortunately the Ghazaks were able to control it for many reasons.
Erbil held great significance for the Mongols due to its fortified citadel and strategic location, which they used as a primary gateway for their armies when heading toward the Levant.
During Mongol rule, it was governed by local rulers from noble Kurdish families who strived to maintain the security and stability of their city as much as possible, enjoying a semi-autonomous administration.
