The derivation in the explanation of Mukhtasar Al-Rawdah by Al-Tawfi

Abstract

The semantic investigations in their various types constitute an important aspect of the field of Usul al-Fiqh (Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence), due to their significance in understanding and analyzing the meanings of religious texts. This study focuses specifically on a crucial semantic aspect: derivation, and elucidates its importance in Usul studies according to al-Tufi. The Arabic language is rich in both morphological and semantic derivation. Many words in the language have been identified by scholars as branching into derivatives that are connected by semantic bonds. The research particularly highlights al-Tufi's efforts in this area, noting references in his book SharhMukhtasar al-Rawdah to the importance of derivation in Usul terminology, and its role in generating new words and concepts, as well as linking meanings between words. The research was divided into two sections: The first - Al-Tawfi and his Ktab Sharh Mukhtasar Al-Rawdah. The second - Derivation in Sharh Mukhtasar Al-Rawdah and Al-Tawfi’s position on it.
