Cultural Alienation among Married and Unmarried Female Students at the College of Education, Al-Zahraa University for girls, in the Era of social media

Abstract

The current research aims to: reveal the level of cultural alienation among female students of the College of Education at Al-Zahraa University (PBUH) for Girls in general, and the level of cultural alienation for each academic department separately, and to identify the significance of statistical differences in the level of cultural alienation among female students according to the variable of marital status (married/unmarried). Based on these objectives, the researchers formulated the following null hypotheses: 1. There are no statistically significant differences at the 0.05 level between the mean scores of female students (in the overall sample and within each department) on the Cultural Alienation Scale and the hypothetical mean of the scale. 2. There are no statistically significant differences at the 0.05 level in the mean scores of female students in the College of Education on the Cultural Alienation Scale attributable to the marital status variable (married/unmarried). The researchers employed the descriptive methodology, as it is the most appropriate for the current research objectives. The research population comprised all female students enrolled in morning studies at the College of Education, Al-Zahraa (A.S.) University for Women. The primary research sample consisted of (288) female students, selected via a stratified random sampling method based on academic major and academic year. The research instrument was the Cultural Alienation Scale, which the researchers constructed based on the "Acculturation Theory." In its final form, the scale consisted of (40) items distributed across (4) domains. Upon establishing its psychometric properties, the researchers administered the scale to the research sample. Utilizing various statistical tools within the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), the researchers attained several findings, most notably: (The level of cultural alienation among these students tended to rise generally, based on the comparison between the arithmetic mean of their scores on the scale and the theoretical mean of the scale). In light of these findings, the researchers formulated a set of conclusions, recommendations, and suggestions, which will be detailed at the end of the current research.
