Individuals enjoy performing challenging tasks because the cost of participation is low and each person's assessment of his or her abilities reduces the anxiety that often accompanies cognitive assessment, by giving the individual a sense of control over the outcomes. Individuals can judge their work in relation to a set of characteristics that they identify as good work. They can consider the effectiveness of their learning approaches and adjust their behavior for the better. The more emphasis is placed on cognitive assessment, the more individuals focus on the goals they seek to achieve, which helps them develop their mental abilities. The current research aims to identify: 1- Cognitive assessment among university students. 2- Differences in the relationship between cognitive assessment among university students according to the variables of gender (males, females) and specialization (scientific, humanities). The current research is limited to Al-Mustansiriya University students of both sexes (males and females), and from the two specializations (scientific and humanities) for the academic year (2023-2024) morning study, and the researchers adopted the cognitive evaluation scale. To achieve this purpose, the researchers adopted the scale (Hamoud, 2014) in its final form consisting of (32) paragraphs, based on the theory of Desi and Ryan (1985), who defined it as "the individual's method of evaluating the actions he will take based on his awareness of his sufficiency, ability and degree of independence." Then the scale was applied to a sample of (400) male and female students from the university's colleges who were selected using the random cluster method, then the data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and the results were as follows. 1- University students have a cognitive evaluation. 2- There is no statistically significant difference in cognitive assessment according to the variables of gender (male, female) and specialization (scientific, humanities). In light of the research results, the researchers presented a number of recommendations and suggestions.
