Abstract

The study highlights the pioneering role of Muslim women in jihad and defense during the Prophetic era, challenging the stereotypical view that confines their role to the domestic sphere. Nusaybah bint Ka'ab presented a unique example of bravery in the Battle of Uhud by personally defending the Prophet. Safiyyah bint Abd al-Muttalib demonstrated military acumen in the Battle of the Trench by killing a Jewish spy, while Asma’ bint Yazid al-Ansari showed heroic resolve during the Battle of Yarmouk. Women's roles varied from direct combat and medical care to logistical support and morale boosting, reflecting the flexibility of the Islamic system and its appreciation for women's contributions. The testimonies of the Prophet and his companions affirmed the value of these roles. These historical models underscore the need to revisit Islamic heritage free from contemporary biases, drawing inspiration from the active and meaningful participation of women in all spheres of life.
