Narrative formation in the stories of (The City of Athel) by Abd Ali Al-Yousifi

Abstract

The collection of stories (Al-Athl City) focusses on depicting political and social oppression, and embodying the needed Iraqi reality, which was formed under the weight of successive wars, starting from the Iraqi-Iran war to the American occupation in 2003. Al-Qas Abdul Ali Al-Yousfi reflects a historical stage burdened with violence, hegemony and inhumane power, and the structural rifts left behind in the infrastructure and suprior of Iraqi society. Despite the adoption of narrative techniques circulating in critical studies, it gives the place an effective semantic presence, transforming the cities of the third into symbolic spaces that reveal the depths of the characters and their psychological insights. The narrative formations combine with the plot based on the theme of war as a humanitarian tragedy that is produced by human suffering, alienation and loss of the homeland, in a narrative horizon dominated by pain, blackness and the extinguishment of life.
