Abstract

Agricultural strikes in California pertain to the orchestrated demonstrations and strikes initiated by agricultural laborers in the region. These protests are typically orchestrated to advocate for enhanced remuneration, better working conditions, and heightened safeguards for farm workers. The agricultural sector in California stands as one of the largest industries in the United States, engaging hundreds of thousands of individuals in its operations. Despite their pivotal role in providing the nation with sustenance, many farm workers have encountered perilous work environments and meager salaries.

The severity of agricultural strikes has escalated significantly. More than a third of these strikes have been deemed successful, leaving a notable imprint on American history, with a participation of over 47,500 farm workers. Numerous entities have been instrumental in spearheading and guiding agricultural strikes in California, chiefly among them being the Industrial Union of Agricultural and Canning Workers, under communist leadership. This organization boasts a lengthy legacy of championing the rights of farm laborers. Functioning as a communist labor entity, it furnished the essential leadership and guidance to elevate this ostensibly disjointed endeavor into a potent labor movement.
