Abstract

The study dealt with a glimpse of social life in India in some books by geographers and historians during the third and fifth centuries AH، by highlighting many aspects of the lives of kings، such as their lack of appearance in front of the public، their burning after death، and the customs and traditions of Indians in marriage، food and clothing، and means of entertainment and recreation.

This research attempted to highlight a clear picture of social life in India during the third and fifth centuries AH, in a more comprehensive and in-depth manner through the books of contemporary travelers and geographers of that period, specifying the time period covered by the research at the end of the fifth century AH.

In studying the subject, the researcher followed the historical and descriptive approach based on collecting scientific material from original, auxiliary sources. The historical approach also searches for the causes of the historical events and facts that India experienced before and during the third and fifth centuries AH, and finally the results reached by the research on these events and results. The descriptive approach is based on identifying and monitoring social phenomena, and trying to identify their social conditions during the third and fifth AH.
