The internal transportation network in cities is considered the backbone that connects the city’s sectors to each other. It is also considered one of the most important components of the city’s infrastructure. Therefore, transportation within cities has an important and major role in the city’s performance of its functions and services through work and shopping trips. Therefore, the study focused on providing a description of the spatial classification of the patterns of the urban transportation network in the city of Khanaqin. The study used geographic information systems technology to describe and analyze the reality of this network. The study was divided into two sections, and the first section focused on the geographical characteristics of the city of Khanaqin, which are the geographic and astronomical location of the city and population growth. As for the second section, the study focused on the characteristics of the urban transportation network for the study area, which was represented by the morphological development of the urban transportation network for the study area, the density of the city’s street network, and the classification of its street network patterns
