الملخص

This paper examines the complex role of artificial intelligence (AI) in the education of adults in Iraqi high schools, specifically in evening classes and fast track education programmes. The gap that the research fills is urgent in the educational scholarship because it considers the potential of the effective use of AI technologies in the adult learning context in a developing nation environment where the unique infrastructural, socioeconomic, and cultural conditions dominate. Using both a quantitative survey methodology and a qualitative interview methodology, this study gathered data of 250 adult learners and 45 teachers in evening high schools located in Baghdad, Basra, and Erbil. The results indicate that although adult learners exhibit statistically significant positive attitudes to the AI assisted learning tools (M = 3.72, SD = 0.84) actual adoption is severely limited due to the lack of appropriate digital infrastructures with only 23% of the surveyed institutions having the high-speed internet connection availability. The analysis reveals that there is a high positive relationship between familiarity with AI tool and retention rates of learners (r = 0.67, p <.001), which implies that the introduction of AI tools in specific areas of work with adult learners may lead to high-quality results. Nevertheless, the main obstacles such as electricity unstable, poor digital literacy of the learner aged 25-45, and lack of policy frameworks in full by the Iraqi Ministry of education are hindering development at the moment. The study concludes by giving viable suggestions on the gradual application of AI, and the recommendation is mainly on offline enabled adaptability learning systems and elaborate training of the teachers. The findings will be added to the ever-increasing literature on educational technology in conflict areas and also it is presented as evidence-based information that will help policymakers who may be concerned with the modernization of the sphere of adult education in Iraq.
