Abstract

The novel (Behind the Hill) is a witness to the era, as it chronicles a dangerous social transformation in the lives of a group of people in the fifties of the last century as a result of political changes that changed the lives of these people. Our research deals with the place as an important artistic element and a hero that has a dominant position in the novel. In view of the intensity of his presence - that is, the place - in the novel (Behind the Hill) it became a strategic key to read it critically and to stand on the aesthetics of the narration in it. Exposed to postponement, isolation, neglect, repression or social repression. Contrary to the prevailing view in reality of this place, the removal of it from its reality and placing it under the light of the novel and the narration makes it much more important than what it is in reality. The novel is one of the works that elevate the place in the narration map so that the place becomes the hero, which is reflected in its artistic structure, as the place element dominates over the rest of the narration elements, but rather it is harnessed to serve it, as the place pushes events forward and develops them, in addition to its dominance over the characters, who are personalities Inactive and its actions are a reflection and echo of the action of the place.
